Here at Emily Green Creative, we enjoy celebrating milestones – big and small! So today I wanted to share a little more about myself and my business in honor of hitting this milestone and recently becoming a Birmingham, Alabama based photographer. Let’s get to know each other, shall we?!

The Journey to 5 Years

Five years ago, I found myself in my mid-twenties with a steady job in a pretty demanding industry, a husband with many hobbies, and a strong entrepreneurial drive.

Well, the entrepreneurial drive was not new to me, I have always had a passion for owning and running a business. Picture seven-year-old Emily making anything I could piece together to sell to my mom’s friends, and excitedly making posters advertising my babysitting skills to hand out to moms at church when I was 14.

Back to my mid-twenties. My mom and sisters had been photographers over the years in a variety of capacities, and so it wasn’t entirely new to me. More than the familiarity of it, though, was the excitement of a creative outlet that drew me in. I have always loved cinematography, emotive images, and alllll the things that go into making this specific style of art behind a camera.

So I borrowed my mom’s Canon Rebel camera, asked my close friend and her boyfriend to model for me, and the rest is history. I was immediately hooked.

Three cameras, dozens of wedding days, and countless family sessions later, I am still just as enamored with the creativity and beauty that photography produces, and I also enjoy the business side of it as much as seven year old Emily would’ve guessed.

I have photographed families and couples in Greece, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, and Kentucky. In 2024, I will add Utah, Idaho, and Louisiana to the list!

2023 – A Big Year for My Business

While moving my business from Nashville to Birmingham has had its challenges, it’s also given me the opportunity to meet so many new clients and fellow photographers and for that, I am grateful!

This business is about connection and serving for me, so no matter what is happening in the growth of my business, I know that if I keep my priority on people, the rest will take care of itself. Trusting God with my business has been hard and holy, and I’ve seen Him move in ways that I could never take credit for myself.

• I was born in Hoover, Alabama and am the youngest of three sisters.
• I graduated from Auburn University – War Eagle!
• My relationship with Jesus is a defining point in every part of my life. Usually easier said than done, but know that it really is my greatest hope that I can represent Him well to everyone I meet.
• We lived in Fayetteville, Arkansas as newlyweds and I miss things about that small town every day.
• My degree is in Building Construction and I worked in the industry for about 5 years before switching to Digital Project Management before “retiring” to be home with my daughter (and now son as well).
• I’m left handed!
• I LOVE music and will share it on my Instagram occasionally but have a deep love for symphonic music. Movie scores are a love language for me. I’m an empath, so I feeeeel those melodies 😂 I also have a spotify playlist of songs that are very much my vibe (except for scores, I keep those separate) that you can check out here! I’m biased, but it’s pretty amazing.
• I have a passion for living a simplified, intentional, holistic lifestyle. This includes the food we eat, the things we bring into our home, the way we take care of ourselves. I could talk all day about our food system, nontoxic products, and unmedicated birth. So always ask, if you’re up for a deep chat 🙂
• I love coffee, sunshine, yoga, the ocean and lake, biohacking, flowers, and dark chocolate. Any combo of those and I’m good to go.
• Christmastime isn’t a season for me, it’s a part of my identity 😂 I am super nostalgic so it’s always so sentimental to me. My favorite movies of all time are both Christmas movies: The Holiday and Home Alone!
• I love adventuring while traveling. In the past, I have hiked up the tallest active volcano in the world (Mount Cotapaxi in Ecuador), snorkeled between the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates in Iceland, snowmobiled on top of a glacier, snorkeled in the Aegean Sea in Santorini, and swam with dolphins in Cancun. Experiences are my favorite way to be intentional with our finances and these memories hold a special place in my heart.
